I’m Wendy Komancheck, and I call myself The Landscape Writer because I focus my business writing services on the lawn and landscape industries. Over the past three years, I’ve written for a wide variety of companies from Arkansas, to California, to Texas, to Ohio, to New Jersey, to New York, and to Pennsylvania.
I have had clients who are landscape construction companies, landscape design/build companies, and lawn care companies. I’ve also written blog content for lawn and landscape vendors, such as a fencing company and a landscape design software company. Professionally, I’ve been writing for the past 15 years. I actually got my start when I was in college and was required to write for my college’s newspaper. I was only required to volunteer my time for one semester, but I ended up writing pieces for the paper for two and a half years.
When I was a senior in college, I started freelancing for my local community papers. After graduation, I took some time off from writing as I pursued a career in teaching. Before my oldest son was born, I knew that I wanted to be a “work at home” mom. So I resurrected my writing dreams and started writing for a community paper. From there, I started writing for my local Sunday newspaper in the Special Sections department. Then I grew into writing trade magazine articles, starting with Farming and Growing at Moose River Media. A few months later, I started writing articles for TURF North and Superintendent magazines.
In 2008, the publishing industry started to cut back and I knew it was time to go to the next level in my freelance writing business. I took some courses and read a lot about content marketing. When the time was right, I transitioned from a freelance magazine and newspaper writer to an Internet marketing writer. I decided to specialize in the lawn and landscape industries after I asked around on green industry LinkedIn groups if there was a need for a blog writer in those niches.
And the rest is history. Today, I provide website content, Internet marketing and ghostblogging services to those in the “green” industry.
